I purchased In House on August 1st 2011. At the time the business sold ‘interiors and gifts’ and was called ‘In House Interiors‘.
My long term hobby had been crafting and it seemed a natural progression to introduce craft sales into the business – it started slowly with just one small display of craft items but soon grew! The name changed to reflect what we were doing – ‘In House Interiors and Crafts’.
Over the next couple of years I was fortunate to meet Jan, Barbara, Andree and Lucy my tutors, who have brought expertise and inspiration to our classes and workshops.
It became clear to me that the way forward was to further develop the craft side of the business. Whilst crafting appears to be a very calm and laid back business, a lot of work goes on outside normal shop hours – maintaining stock levels and researching new products and ideas, so I took the decision to focus 100% on crafts. Elaine at Pebbles (next door) took over the gifts side of the business, she has now moved to larger premises at the other end of the Marina.
To reflect this change our name was ‘reduced’ to ‘In House Crafts‘.
What we do.
As you might imagine the term ‘crafts’ covers a large number of activities. To provide stock for customers to purchase and expertise to call on, when advice/guidance is needed, for ALL crafts, is just about impossible.
So the decision was taken to concentrate on paper crafting – (1) paper crafting including cards and paper engineering projects, (2) albums including scrapbooks and (3) mixed media – a short name but one that covers many craft skills.
Due to the competition from on line retailers we only stock a limited number of craft machines. If you are contemplating purchasing a machine do have a word with Cheryl – we might have a machine for you to try ‘before you buy‘, we might be able to compete on price and we might be able to provide you with some training to enable you to get the best out of your purchase. A lot of ‘mights’ but worthwhile if it assists you in making the right choice.
Whilst we welcome visits, if you only wish to purchase a particular machine/item and have some distance to travel, might we suggest that a phone call or email might avoid a wasted journey!
